MindCapsule Privacy Policy

Overview

MindCapsule is a YouTube learning assistant. It helps you turn YouTube videos into structured knowledge notes by extracting the video title and publicly available captions/transcript, then sending them to an AI service provider that you configure.

This Privacy Policy explains what data is involved, how it is handled, and what stays on your device.

Information We Access

When you use MindCapsule on a YouTube video page, the extension reads only the information necessary to generate your notes:

• The title of the current YouTube video.
• The publicly available captions/transcript of the video (if enabled by the video creator).

We do not access your YouTube account, viewing history, search history, likes, subscriptions, comments, or any other personal YouTube data.

How AI Processing Works

MindCapsule does not provide a built-in AI service. Instead, it sends the video title and captions directly to the AI provider you choose:

• SiliconFlow (api.siliconflow.cn) when you select it in settings.
• Any OpenAI-compatible endpoint you enter yourself when you select "Custom".

The request is made using the API key that you provide and store in the extension. The request goes directly from your browser to your chosen provider. We do not route, intercept, copy, or store the content on our servers.

Data Stored Locally

All of the following are stored only in your own browser using Chrome storage APIs (chrome.storage.local and chrome.storage.sync):

• Your AI provider settings and API key.
• Your language and output preferences.
• Recently generated knowledge capsules.

This data never leaves your device unless you explicitly export it yourself.

Data We Do Not Collect

We do not collect any of the following:

• Personal identifiers such as your name, email address, phone number, or location.
• Browsing history or search queries outside of the active YouTube video.
• Payment or financial information.
• Cookies or tracking identifiers.

We do not sell, rent, or share your data with advertisers, analytics providers, or any other third parties.

Third-Party Services

Your chosen AI provider is the only third party that receives video title and caption data. Please review their privacy policy to understand how they handle the data you send them.

Children's Privacy

MindCapsule is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect any information from children.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date.
